Ashthon Jones was born on February 27, 1986 to Michelle and Harvey Anderson in Joplin, Missouri, a City she would never become familiar with, as her family moved to Valdosta, GA soon after her birth. When Ashthon was nine, she moved with her parents to Nashville, where she finished her primary years of schooling. Ashthon was blessed with a large family full of cousins who could all sing or play instruments. Her first memories of being musical herself, was at five-years-old. “I remember playing church, singing my heart out, and shouting around the house.”Ashthon was back and forth from Nashville to Valdosta, and back again. She would stay with whom she calls her second family, the Bellamy’s, when in Georgia. “The Bellamy’s are a huge host of first cousins, and they are all musically talented, so that’s where I get my singing from.”
Her musical influences in the industry are the Clark Sisters, Mary Mary, Monica, Destiny’s Child, and Mary J. Bleige. “I always looked up to Mary J in a special way, because she is living proof of what having longevity in the music business looks like.”
Ashthon was blessed to have met a talented Super Producer who goes by BarNone in Nashville, TN. He has worked with G-Unit, YoungBuck, Pimp-C, SoSo Def, and many others. He had a vision for Ashthon as a new artist in the music industry, and that vision is still in motion today. He introduced her to a major Publishing Company in Nashville, TN, which led to a Publishing Deal when Ashthon was 19 years old. Little did they know, that blessing was just the start of many others.
Presently, Ashthons favorite artist is Neyo, she especially admires his writing skills, and ability to create hit songs. Unlike many others, Ashthon has never been in a girl group, and she has no plans of moving in that direction.
ADOLESCENSE
Ashthon was blessed to be born into a two-parent household, but she has never physically met her biological father, Adonis Weathers Jr.
Harvey Anderson, married her mother before Ashthon was born, and remained in Ashthons life, as her Dad, until his death in 2000. She feels fortunate to have always had a father figure, but recalls some troubled times when she hit those magical teen years. “I remember feeling misunderstood and alone,” Said Ashthon. Because she went through so much as a teen, Ashthon wants to share her experiences in hopes of motivating young girls across America to follow their dreams no matter what. Since returning home from American Idol, Season 10, Ashthon has contacted local Nashville Schools offering to come in and give motivational speeches to students.
AMERICAN IDOL
Ashthon has always watched American Idol, and she always dreamed of auditioning, but she had no idea this would be her season. She has worked tirelessly on her singing career in and around Nashville for over 6-years. However, recently she had shifted focus after re-dedicating her life, and her singing career was not at the forefront of her mind. She was working in a shoe store as a retail manager, when her mother called her and told her it was her time, and to go audition. Ashthon didn’t think twice, she hung up the phone, quit her job, and got in line for the American Idol auditions. She wore the number 8838 across her chest as she entered to sing before Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, and Jennifer Lopez. She came out of the audition, a winner, she made it to Hollywood. Not only did Ashthon make it to Hollywood, she made it to the top 13. She was the judge’s wildcard pick and was saved the first elimination night. However, her journey on American Idol came to an end; America chose to send Ashthon back to Nashville. “It’s not a sad ending for me, it’s only the beginning, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything is going according to plan; just watch what He has in store for me next”. Ashthon’s faith in God, and desire to utilize her talent, gives her confidence beyond her own understanding. Since she’s left American Idol, she’s had time focusing on her image and her voice, also taking care of her Mother who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Ashthon has 4 brothers and sisters that she helps take care of, and their all younger than her. Ashthon decided to stay off the American Idol Tour to be a big help to her family, at the same time, she has been keeping herself busy making special appearances, signing auto-graphs, hosting big events, and changing her look! “I can’t wait to show the world what they didn’t see from me. The real Ashthon Jones! After I’m done showing the world, then it will be time to take over the universe!”
